Zeus and Apollo, Homer and the 300 Spartans, beautiful temples of Athens and ancient cities... Ancient Hellas is Greece for us. In fact, this is a profound error. Because the world of the Greeks - solar civilization that gave birth to the entire European culture and worldview - appeared and bloomed... on the territory of modern Turkey. Here, on the paradisiacal Mediterranean coast of Asia Minor, the ancient Greek culture appeared. Here were born Homer and Herodotus, here were placed such wonders of the world, like the statue of Zeus and the Temple of Artemis, set on fire by Gyrostat... What can we say, almost all of the Hellas is Turkey.
Ephesus
The ancient city, which appeared in the days of early antiquity, Ephesus impresses tourists with its magnificent temples and houses to this day. No wonder Ephesus was considered one of the most beautiful cities in the Hellenic world. Here you can see the temple of Artemis destroyed by mad Gyrostat. Fortunately, the marble columns of the temple were not very affected by the fire, so now we can see this miracle of the Ancient World. Here is preserved the first library in the world (Celcius Library) and the house where Virgin Mary lived out her last days.
Pergamum
The famous Pergamon Altar was taken to Germany from here. Fortunately, the temple - a majestic building made of marble - remained standing on the hillside. Getting up on the stone steps, you'll see an incredible city-kingdom, situated entirely in the mountains. Ingenuity of the ancient architects is really amazing - right on a steep hillside in Pergamum was built and survived a huge theater with terrific acoustics. The nature has become part of the scenery, and vice versa. And besides, there are numerous buildings, columns and statues preserved in Pergamum. It was in Pergamum where the famous temple of Zeus was located on a distant mountain.
Troy
This legendary city for many centuries was considered an invention of Homer. It was discovered in the nineteenth century by archaeologist Schliemann, and his finding surpassed all expectations of scientists. It turned out that the events of the Trojan War described by Homer happened in reality! In Troy you can see seven cities located on the same place at different times. Here is also preserved a stone bench and table, where Alexander of Macedon itself had a rest before going to battle with the Persians.
Hierapolis
Ancient city-cemetery, located next to the resort of Pamukkale, Hierapolis gives an idea of the grandeur of Greek civilization. Huge areas dotted with large tombs and decorated with antique sculptures... Through this enormous city of the dead an ancient Roman road is built. There is a traditional Roman arch, ancient baths of Cleopatra, theater, and marble basilica..

Turkish treasures
Architectural jewels of Turkey
Four of the most unique attractions in Turkey - history and architecture...
Saint Sophia Cathedral :
It doesn't depend on what area of life in Turkey you are talking about, you still have to remember it. Hagia Sophia! The giant cathedral of early Middle Ages, Hagia Sophia is one of the largest churches in the world. The building that towers above the whole Istanbul has plenty of gems, icons, mosaics, unique samples of Ottoman calligraphy, rare columns collected throughout the whole Byzantium and the pagan temples in Rome, antique and cult artefacts... All this, as well as the unique architecture of Sofia which served as a model for churches and mosques in the next ten centuries, make this temple a unique phenomenon and the main attraction of Turkey.
Hattusas :
Once on the flat plateau of Anatolia there lived very warlike Hittites. They built their cities of stones on the rare hills and the gates to these cities have been always decorated with the stone lions. Hittites crushed the power of Ancient Egypt and left an invaluable mark on the history of the world and Turkey. This country "inherited" such a unique Hittite attraction as the ancient city Hattusas. This is a huge ancient city with temples, baths, palaces and houses - now completely deserted - looking at which you feel all the greatness of the Hittite civilization. Hattusas takes the second place in our rating.
Bath of Cleopatra :
This unique place is called Pamukkale. White rocks, on which water drains from mineral springs: hot, warm, cold... From the top of hills there are beautiful views of the surrounding area. Right in Pamukkale you can see the largest ancient cemetery of Hierapolis, the tombs of saints, the Gates of Diocletian's Palace... And, of course, bath of Cleopatra. The famous queen of Egypt was fond of taking bath in Pamukkale and especially for her a luxurious pool-garden was built here. It is filled with mineral water with optimal temperature regime - it comes straight out of the ground - and around the edges and center of the basin exotic flowers and plants grow and exotic birds sing... Bath of Cleopatra is a masterpiece of ancient architecture which has been preserved in Turkey to this day!. Turkey pictures
Goreme monastery :
Cappadocia is a piece of the moon on Earth. Mountains, eroded by wind and water, giant stone pillars created by nature itself... People have created in Cappadocia a huge network of underground monasteries, churches and... cities. Some of them can be traced to a depth of twelve floors... But the monastery of Goreme is not only architecture, it also has rare frescos of 8-12 centuries. These frescos in abundance decorate the walls of the monastery.
mevlana and dervishes Of Turkey
Most of us have probably never seen the famed Whirling Dervishes perform their enthralling dances in person. But most people have some image of a Whirling Dervish even though chances are good that they have never seen one. Although chances are good that they have never seen one. The history of the Whirling Dervishes began in the 13th century when the order was created by its founder the poet Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi. The original Whirling Dervishes that Rumi founded. came to being within the Mevlevi Order. Now, eight centuries later. The incredible dances of the Dervishes still continue to enthrall tourists and natives of Turkey alike with their signature whirling dance.
Many people would question the significance of the whirling done by the Dervishes. The historical origins of this practice are said to have begun for the habit of the founder of the Dervishes, a poet named Balkhi-Rumi. For it is claimed that her would sometimes spin in the streets to emphasize his joy. This practice was then carefully refined by the Dervishes themselves until it became a method of achieving a trance-like state. If you do plan to visit Turkey y0ou should make every effort toe see a mesmerizing performance of he Whirling Dervishes.
There are many places and venues to performances of the Whirling Dervishes, Some of the most popular ones take place in the city of Konya, where the Dervish order originated. December 17th is perhaps the most dramatic day to witness the Dervishes dance in Konya for that is the anniversary of the death of their founder, Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi. Each year the Mevlana Commemoration Festival happens during the week from December 10th to the 17th. This is truly a tremendous opportunity to witness one of the grand spectacles of dancing anywhere, the justly famed Dance of the Whirling Dervishes.
